Iowa State FLL Championship Outreach

Thanks to ISEK, Team Neutrino was able to have an outreach booth during this year’s FLL Championship at ISU. This event was very successful for us. We were almost constantly giving mini presentations to FLL teams and the general public who decided to stop by and see what Team Neutrino was. The kids really enjoyed being able to catch the frisbees that were shot by last year’s robot, and also had the chance to see what comes next after FLL.

The Ultimate Frisbee game!

Congratulations to all of the FLL teams that made it to state!

Build Season Week 2

Our second week in the shop was very productive. We finalized our design, and began CADD and prototyping. Last week’s prototype was mainly to see if the overall idea of a slingshot and pickup would work. This week, the goal of our prototype was to match the dimensions of the CADD and test them. For the last two weeks, the parent mentors as well as some student members and mentors built and assembled the goals. These will be essential later for driver practice!

Build Season Week 1

We had a great first week in the lab!

During kickoff, we started brainstorming by figuring out which strategies would score the most points. Then, on the next Monday, we brainstormed shooter designs, and came up with a catapult and a slingshot idea. We also thought of several pickup ideas, which we also started prototyping, thanks to our access to Boyd lab at ISU. We built working wooden models of two of our shooter ideas, and a pickup idea that we can modify.Brianstorming

2014 Kickoff

Kickoff Video:

Game Manual

Welcome to FRC season 2014, Aerial Assist!  The streaming cut off in some places, and was choppy in others, so above is the complete kickoff broadcast.

Kickoff went well for us, even though the sound wasn’t always synced to people’s mouth movements due to the choppiness of the kickoff video in our region.  We had quite a few rookies, but they seem to be catching on really well and giving some interesting suggestions.  More proof it’s always a good idea to have fresh minds.  Some of the rookies didn’t know many people on the team, though, so we played some ice breaker games while waiting for kickoff to start.  Welcome, rookies, I hope you have fun this season!

Hope kickoff went well for you too!  Good luck, teams!
