2025: Reefscape

Game Overview

REEFSCAPE is the 2025 FIRST Robotics Competition game, featuring two competing alliances that score coral, harvest algae, and attach to the barge before time runs out. During the autonomous phase, robots move from their starting zones to score coral and gather algae. During the TELEOP phase, drivers control the robots to collect coral from human players and score it on the reef.

To unlock all scoring locations, robots must dislodge algae and either score it in the barge or deliver it to a human player who will then score it.  When both alliances score at least two algae in the processor, they earn a Coopertition Point, which affects their tournament ranking and lowers the requirements for ranking points.

As time nears its end, robots grab onto their cages and park under the barge. The alliance with the most points wins the match! More information can be found in the game overview.

Our Robot

During the 2025 season, our robot was named Leviathan, the infamous sea monster depicted in the Bible. The Leviathan represents something vast, imposing, and nearly unstoppable. This robot was designed to handle complex tasks, much like the Leviathan is often depicted as a force of nature.

Our robot used a four-wheel West-Coast Products Swerve X drive. Leviathan was designed to score all 4 levels on the reef, with an intake that also is the scoring mechanism, and climb the deep cage during the end game. This scoring mechanism is a polycarb passive coral mechanism attached to the elevator. During the autonomous period, the robot can score 3 coral pieces on the highest level, level 4. The climb mechanism is an arm deployed by two gas springs. A rope allows the Krakens to reel in the arm. It is controlled by a winch that is driven by two Krakens. Once the mechanism is activated, the hooks are opened, laying down a granny stick that helps grab onto the cage so the robot doesn’t fall off the deep cage.

Competitions

In 2025, we attended the Central Missouri Regional, where we won the Engineering Inspiration Award, the Iowa Regional, where we won the Team Sustainability award, and two Dean’s List Finalists!! We also went to the FIRST Championship in Houston after qualifying from the Engineering Inspiration Award in Central Missouri.
